Shepley Bulfinch > People > Garrold E. Baker
As a freshman in college, I didn't know a thing about architecture. One of my design professors exposed me to the range of opportunities in the profession and since then, I've discovered that I'm a modernist at heart; I love the simplicity of modern architecture and am a firm believer in "less is more."
Architecture itself is an artistic outlet for me, but I draw the most creative talent from the people I meet through design projects; architects, engineers and builders all bring diverse talents to our job pursuits. My passion is the orchestration of the team. Two projects that stand out for me are both large hospital projects. They resonate with me more than my other projects, as I have had continuing relationships with each of these clients for more than 20 years. I've seen both of these clients and Shepley Bulfinch evolve over time, both personally and architecturally. We have stimulated each other, educated each other and succeeded together. Therein lies the satisfaction of my work and architecture.
