Navajo County, Community Health Center and Administrative Campus
Show Low, AZ | 2010
Navajo County's new community health center gives residents centralized access to healthcare in a contemporary environment that doubles the space of the previous clinic. The facility is organized around a central reception area, which efficiently re-directs patients through adjacent corridors to access specific clinical and non-clinical zones. Embracing the region's vernacular building type, the center's design reflects the local climate, with plans to utilize solar power to provide nearly 50% of power consumption at peak periods. The center's large community assembly/multi-purpose room opens up to an outdoor terrace and pavilion, and can also serve as an emergency operations center. The health center forms a new county campus with three existing buildings, which will be renovated to house other administrative offices. The campus is located near the city's athletic fields and across from the city hall and the new library, also designed by the firm.
