University of Colorado, University Center Expansion
Colorado Springs, Colorado | 2001
This award-winning University Center expansion unites a previously disjointed facility and gives it an identifiable entrance. Shepley Bulfinch designed a two-story glass atrium/pavilion connecting two sections of the existing University Center and the Kraemer Family Library, also designed by the firm. The project provided much-needed student life spaces for the University's rapidly expanding Colorado Springs campus, creating a crossroads for academic and student life. The project has given a home to many services not previously available on campus while at the same time bringing a new, modern design aesthetic to the campus. This project, which received a 2002 Honor Award from the Colorado Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, was designed in association with H and L Architecture of Denver.
