"Working with our partners at Shepley Bulfinch we have the ideal environment to collaborate and lead the efforts of the newest cancer hospital and the only NCI designated cancer center in the State of Connecticut."

Abe Lopman
Vice President and Executive Director, Smilow Cancer Hospital
Yale New Haven Hospital

"During the master program development of the library's $16 million renovation we had the involvement of Shepley Bulfinch's senior architects and programmers. They demonstrated not only superior expertise but also considerable patience through our learning process... We are more than satisfied with the results of the renovation, and it is clear that Shepley Bulfinch knows libraries. They helped transform the Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library, enabling us to create a dynamic environment that has made our library an academic and social center among the four campuses we serve."

Loretta Parham
CEO and Library Director,

"Shepley Bulfinch found a very efficient strategy for constructing a few new facilities and renovating and retrofitting other existing facilities to solve the strategic puzzle for Davidson. This approach will benefit us greatly because it injects themes of our strategic plan throughout the campus, rather than just creating new facilities conducive to the strategic plan."

David Holthouser
Director, Facilities Management

"It is hard to believe that one year ago Campbell Law School was still housed in our old building on the main campus of Campbell University. The project contractor and various vendors literally worked around the clock to implement the incredible design that you and the team at Shepley Bulfinch envisioned for our school. The end result was extraordinary.

As I walk the halls, sit in my office, attend a lecture in the auditorium, or host a group of guests in the Grand Foyer, words such as: warm, elegant, inviting, functional, and 'eccentric in the right places' come to mind...

Thank you for your vision and efforts to bring the beauty, functionality, and timelessness of the home of Campbell Law School to life."

"In this YouTube video, students talk about what they love about Duke University's libraries, which Shepley Bulfinch has shaped over the past decade. These include a series of renovations for the Perkins Library; and the creation of Bostock Library, the von der Heyden Pavilion; and Duke Link, the University's Teaching and Learning Center."

"I hadn't realized how great this building was going to be. I don't think anyone did, except maybe you guys: looking at the plans and drawings, I couldn't really tell.

It's quite amazing. The size, the scale, the accomplishment is mind-boggling... yet it's warm and inviting.

I can't describe how much this will mean to Sherman. The physician groups, everyone I've led through can't wait to start working here. The feeling goes beyond just pride: there's an atmosphere here that will change our lives."

"Our relationship with SBRA's current principals and design associates has been remarkably productive, because of their extensive knowledge of pediatric health care and equally, because of how well they understand the Hospital's philosophy for the treatment of children...

Under SBRA's supervision, the [Main South Building] project was driven by medical and nursing staff participating in all essential design elements, with the involvement of technicians and related clinicians commenting on a variety of 'mock-up' elements (i.e., patient rooms, ORs, MRI-OR, etc.), so that consensus could be achieved that would translate into a healthier and safer environment for patients, families and staff. Though plaudits are often over-exaggerated, our Main South Building truly raised the standards of pediatric health care in this country and provided a vision for delivery of improved clinical service for our patients and their families. SBRA should be properly recognized for their efforts in this regard."

"I've worked with many design firms over the years as an administrative dean at Cornell University in the College of Engineering. I'm pleased to report that Shepley Bulfinch has proven to be among the most capable and responsive of the firms with which I've worked. The team working at Colgate is unusually talented and very experienced. Design concepts have been well-considered, elegant, and contextual. Scope and design changes have been handled with alacrity and care. Project schedules and milestones were carefully adhered to. The firm's overall performance has been nothing short of exemplary.

I can also report that Shepley Bulfinch works hard to design within budget, while ensuring the owner gets real value for the dollar. To its credit, the firm will push the budget envelope, but in the end the team will be there working as your advocate with the general contractor or construction manager to ensure you have a project you can afford.

In summary, I can say without reservation that should you be fortunate enough to hire Shepley Bulfinch, you won't regret your decision."

"One of our senior surgeons who spends a substantial amount of time in the ICU [recently completed by Shepley Bulfinch] made it a point to stop me today and tell me what a difference the new unit has made for both patients and staff. He was used to coming on to the old unit and finding staff stressed and patient care challenging at times because of the environment. Now he says he goes on to the unit with confidence that the care our sickest patients are receiving is being provided in a much more positive and uplifting environment and that the staff is much more relaxed and positive about their work. He attributes this significant improvement in care and functionality to the design of the unit."

"Shepley Bulfinch was selected for their ability to combine contextually sensitive design that is a product of its time. The design they have created for us is one that sits comfortably on the historic Homewood Campus while still being clearly modern and not simply a copy of existing university buildings.

I have often described them as having their egos firmly in check, unlike many architects we encounter. Johns Hopkins University has been represented by a highly opinionated and diverse group in the design process. SBRA has successfully engaged all participants to create a design with which we are all not simply satisfied, but are genuinely thrilled with.

In addition to their design skills, this team has brought a high degree of technical skill and client service to the commission. SBRA has earned high praise for their collegiality with which they approach their construction phase services. We are particularly pleased that the project has come in on budget in an extremely volatile market that is a testament to their ability to keep the final documents and details in line with the pricing sets."

"My experience with you over the last five years has met and exceeded my every expectation. You have worked with us in a way that allows us to consistently get our work done at a high level of quality in less time and under budget. The results have already been obvious to us in the completion of the four phases of work that have already been accomplished. We expect that the next three phases that are already underway will continue to demonstrate your value to us."

"Shepley Bulfinch Richardson & Abbott has been our design partner since the late-1980s when we began planning a replacement academic medical center. The firm has continued as our partner through the years primarily because it has consistently demonstrated its commitment to the improvement of healthcare and its ability to balance competing objectives. The Project began with an update of the facilities master plan, which affirmed guiding principles of patient focus, design character, environmental sensitivity and flexibility. A cornerstone of SBRA's work is the firm's ability to collaborate with staff at all levels, truly listening to their needs, concerns, and ideas."

"As Clinical Director of the Cardiovascular Center, I have worked very closely with the Shepley Bulfinch team as we create a 360,000 square foot clinical Cardiovascular Center at the University of Michigan. This team has been absolutely phenomenal to work with. Their performance at all levels of the project has been first rate. Our institution has been extremely satisfied with their responsiveness, their service and their remarkable design talent. When we looked at a national search for an outstanding team member to partner with us in creating a top flight Cardiovascular Center, they emerged as the clear winner over a number of other talented entities."

"Throughout the design process, the team was professional, extremely responsive to my desires, but also able to provide valuable suggestions and guidance. This state-of-the-art, 55,000 net square feet facility that is traditional Gothic on the outside but which has a light, airy, warm and modern feel and look within. We wanted the facility to have spaces that encouraged interactions as well as to be sufficiently flexible to accommodate many different laboratory types and teaching space as our needs evolved. Indeed, as our faculty and their individual needs expanded, this flexibility has already been put to use several times. Our building is now the goal point for a wide variety of activities involving many organizations of our university. Additionally without exception, visitors from around the world remark on the beauty and functionality of this facility. Those who work in it day-to-day also continue to rave about the environment. Thus, it is clear to me that the entire project was an unqualified success attributable, without a doubt, to this design team. I am pleased to give them my unqualified and most enthusiastic endorsement."

"Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott's master planning team recently developed a master plan for our campus at Eastern Virginia Medical School to enhance the utilization of our existing space and plan for the growth of our campus and school in the future. While remaining sensitive to the schedule and budget, SBRA brought a level of innovative thinking to the table that provided us with creative solutions for our use of space on campus as well as how we can continue to grow our campus in a feasible way.

Throughout the process of developing the master plan and through several smaller design related projects, SBRA has provided an exceptional level of support no matter the size of the project. I came to rely upon the sound advice provided to me by the team and found that in particular I was very much able to count on timely and thoughtful responses to my inquiries."

"Shepley Bulfinch led the design, documentation, and administration services for the renovation of the Countway Library at the Harvard Medical School. The design team brought creative solutions that incorporated contemporary learning and research styles into the existing building, constructed in the 1960's. The result has been a success. The environment is welcoming and functional to students, faculty and the entire Harvard Medical School community."

"Barton Malow has been fortunate to work with Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbott on three large, complicated hospital building programs. Our relationship with Shepley Bulfinch began with the New Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan, more than ten years ago. I remember my first impression of Shepley, which continues today, that they were not your typical architect and were team oriented, collaborative, had no airs about them, focused on the best interest of the project while delivery a signature design.

SBRA has been ahead of the curve with advancements in exterior wall details. We worked closely with them to deliver one of the most advanced performing wall systems that has been built.

As a team, we worked together to develop, price and present alternatives and still deliver a signature building within budget.
SBRA provides the important elements from a design team that make any project successful; constructable documents, service/responsiveness and most importantly, upon completion, a building every team member can take pride in having been a part of."

"Shepley Bulfinch has been a team player from the start, working with the common goal of the Project team to meet Johns Hopkins University's budget and schedule. To date, the design and construction team has successfully done that. SBRA's attention to detail and open line of communication greatly reduce constructability issues as well as RFI's and Change Orders."
