Eastern Virginia Medical School, Campus Master Plan
Norfolk, VA | 2005
The campus Master Plan for Eastern Virginia Medical School addresses programmatic needs to unify the school's academic, research and clinical programs. It explores new physical planning strategies for the campus that work in concert with the redevelopment of the city's historic waterfront district. Facilities are organized to promote interaction and collaboration between faculty, students, researchers, and partner hospitals. Pedestrian circulation in and around the main campus is clarified, allowing for improved accessibility for patients, medical students, and hospital staff. New construction and major renovation reinforce a central medical campus, consolidating disparate program elements and fostering a sense of community. The Plan recommends additional classrooms, reprogrammed laboratories, and expanded clinical facilities, all of which are intended to draw top researchers and students and provide premium patient care.

"While remaining sensitive to the schedule and budget, SBRA brought a level of innovative thinking to the table that provided us with creative solutions for our use of space on campus as well as how we can continue to grow our campus in a feasible way. Throughout the process of developing the master plan and through several smaller design related projects, SBRA has provided an exceptional level of support no matter the size of the project. I came to rely upon the sound advice provided to me by the team and found that in particular I was very much able to count on timely and thoughtful responses to my inquiries." - Mark P. Babshanian, Vice President for Administration and Finance, Eastern Virginia Medical School
